Night: a time of secrets, mystery and magic. But, for me it is a time to sleep.
I’m a morning person, active during the day.
Nighttime images that come to my mind are of lights warming burning inside a building, beckoning from the outside.
Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks comes to mind, as does an art quilt I did about 4 years ago.
But what I decided to do was make a larger quilt based on a small one I did a couple of years ago.
It is a particular moment in the evening at our house. The sun is setting over the western tree line, abutted up against a mountain ridge. The trees and land are cast in darkness, but the sky is still light.
So many times we’ve sat and enjoyed this sight and feeling. Other times we run to the window to catch a glimpse.
It is firmly in my mind and heart.
